Volunteering

The Journey provides many opportunities to serve others and to make use of the wonderful gifts God has bestowed on each individual. Both our church and involvement opportunities are constantly growing and expanding. If there is some other way you would like to volunteer at The Journey please click here and tell us about it. Below are current service positions.

Sunday Worship Service Opportunities

You may click on any of the following positions for a more detailed description of the duties.

Greeter
One of our values at The Journey is Radical Hospitality in which we create an authentic and non-threatening environment that welcomes all. You have the opportunity to convey that from the moment people arrive.

Greeters are responsible for:

  • Greeting our guests and members and directing them to the welcome/information table.
  • Covering all critical points in the parking lot, entrances, and at the welcome/information table.
  • Informing and guiding our first time guests.
  • Connecting 1st time guests with the hospitality hosts.

Usher
By serving as an usher you have the opportunity to impact our guests’ first moments – moments that are crucial in whether or not they feel welcomed at The Journey.

Ushers are responsible for:

  • The distribution of bulletins to EVERYONE prior to the beginning of the worship celebration. Please make sure that both members and guests fill out, detach, and place their card in the offering basket.
  • Monitoring the need for more chairs; put more out when needed.

Hospitality Host
By serving as a hospitality host you have the opportunity to make both our guests and regular attendees feel welcome and at home every time we meet by helping to prepare the drink and snack table.

Hospitality hosts are responsible for:

  • Going one step further than the greeters by seeking to make connections with our first time guests, answer questions, and make them feel welcome.
  • Sitting with our first and second time guests during worship (if appropriate).
  • Ensuring that there are take-aways (flyers, etc.) spread throughout the gathering spaces.
  • Preparing the drink and snack table prior to the worship service.

The Servant Team
By serving on the Servant Team you will do some of the “undesirable” work – possibly unattractive, but necessary for us to function fully. This includes getting the Pavilion ready for church services as well as breaking everything down afterwards. Because this is a big job we schedule volunteers to either set-up or break-down, not both.

The Set-Up team is responsible for:

  • Unloading all the equipment from the trailer.
  • Setting up all the equipment.

The Tear-Down team is responsible for:

  • Packing away all the equipment into the trailer and storage space after worship.
  • Completing a thorough cleaning of all spaces utilized.

Children’s Ministry
By serving on The Journey Adventure Crew you will share God with our youngest members – our children. Led by our Director and guided by our Children’s Ministry Task Force, you will have the opportunity to translate God’s loving message to our most precious resources.

Nursery volunteers are responsible for:

  • Assisting the Nursery Staff by loving on our children, newborns to four years of age. You will be hugging, feeding, playing, and changing diapers, etc.
  • Ensuring the safety of our children at all times.

Children’s Church volunteers are responsible for:

  • Implementing pre-written and prepared lessons while the sermon is being delivered in the main worship space.
  • Leaving with the children when invited during the worship experience and staying with them for the 20-30 minutes they are involved in Children’s Church.
  • Ensuring the safety of our children at all times.

Trail Guides are responsible for:

  • Making sure that first-time guests fill out registration forms and nursery stickers.
  • Taking first-time guests on short tours of The Journey Adventure Crew space.
  • Taking families from the registration table to the Nursery and introducing them to the Nursery Staff.
  • Ensuring the safety of our children at all times (when applicable).

Other Opportunities

The Bridge
Becoming part of The Bridge ministry means that you will work with others to develop and implement activities geared towards “tweens”. You will have an opportunity to put your creativity, energy, and resources to work for an enthusiastic bunch.

The Marketing Team
By serving on the Marketing Team you will have the opportunity to share The Journey with others. By sharing with people in the church about our ministries, you might help get them plugged into ministry. By sharing with people who are yet to be connected, you might help them to take a step, possibly their 1st, on their spiritual path.
